with art fight only days from ending i thought that this year i'd make a

nice wrap-up post featuring all the attacks i've made this year,

as well as why i chose to attack that character

꒰ྀི ˶ˆ꒳ˆ˵ ꒱ྀི

i've been participating in art fight since 2021, 

but this is the first year i've made full, detailed illustrations as attacks 

(and very likely the only year i'll be doing so-) 

because i wanted to create commission samples to showcase 

since i'll be opening them soon and wanted to expand my portfolio 

as well as test the limits on how many fully painted illustrations 

i could make within a month deadline

it was a fun, yet exhaustive decision..

ATTACKS

important: all illustrations featured below are not free to use!

these were made exclusively for the artist the character belongs to

Harper for apparitions

Harper was the first attack which i had completed this year, 

digitally painted in my vintage greeting card style

though there were a couple characters i was considering to illustrate 

from this artist, i opted for Harper because he is a Cinnamoroll fan character,

which i love Cinnamoroll, one of my comfort series 

as well as being a generally nostalgic-vibe pastel character!

i don't often paint with pure pastels that aren't muted/earthy/dusty in recent years, 

so this was like visiting an old friend working with such soft, cheerful tones 

꒰ྀི ฅ́˘ฅ̀ ྀི꒱

because of the pastels and sweater i feel this kind of ended up 

with 80's greeting card vibes rather than the typical 40's look 

i go for, and i think that's exciting actually that i may 

be able to adapt this style as needed

Azalea for FoxyFrennetic

Azalea was the second attack i had completed, also 

digitally painted in my vintage greeting card style and quite honestly, 

my top favourite attack i've made this year- i love painting autumn scenes 

more than i do painting the typical "spring" kind of scenes actually..

꒰ྀི ៸៸៸៸ ก꒱ྀི

i had found Azalea while searching through the tags and after 

reading the little details given of their background story, world, 

and pinterest board i just knew i wanted to make a painting of them

i had never made art of a scarecrow before so this was new to 

figure out how to work with my style, 

and what i learned is i absolutely want to paint more scarecrows

while making this attack i was already planning concepts for 

additional characters to add into my projects that were scarecrows hehe,,

Eve for loevlies

Eve was the third attack i had completed, admittedly the 

most difficult as it it a digitally painted bust portrait in my main antique greeting card

inspired style- and also because of the blues, i do not do well with blues;;

as a result of these struggles the end didn't come out as i hoped but, 

at least it still looks nice even if not going as planned

i had also found Eve while scrolling through the tags, and just was 

charmed by her character design and the given details on her story

i also love the butterfly motifs, as well as her love for the 

rococo dresses as i could draw something a little fancy 

if i had more time i would've loved to add more detailing to the frame

Doll for blackShadow15

Doll was the fourth attack that i had completed this year, 

but it was actually the first artwork i had started on!

once again digitally painted in my main antique greeting card inspired style, 

this is, i honestly feel my best work of all the paintings this year just 

because it ended up very well within the time restraints i was under

painted the mirror, than having the mirror blinded by the sunlight 

was an extensive process of layering and layering 

꒰ྀིㅇㅁㅇ꒱ྀི

Doll was the first character i had found through the tags i chose, 

and i found her concept really intriguing! a fairy that possessed a doll, 

and the cracks in the doll's face are repaired with glass-

i hadn't seen any doll characters like that before, so knew i wanted to 

make a composition that held fairy vibes and attention to glass 

i don't know if i got the mirror reflection too accurate but, 

i am still learning how reflections work,,

Dahlia for SoYi

and as for my final art fight attack of 2023, Dahlia the

gothic bunny doll also digitally painted in my antique greeting card influenced style

this was, an incredibly ambitious illustration to do within the time restraints,

but i knew i wanted to add a really detailed frame to one of the paintings and 

felt that the gothic piece would be the best for it

i think if i had more time this would've become my favourite piece, 

but it is still incredibly close

some weeks ago i had actually followed this artist because of one of their other 

characters i had found through tags, and later on when deciding a character to 

paint took note of the very gothic dolly bunny character- 

i have the softest spot for painting bunny characters, and the cute gothic design was 

such a bonus as it had been soso long i had done a gothic painting! 

honestly i wasn't entirely sure what kind of doll this bunny was designed around, 

(i didn't want to ask to not spoil the surprise)

but i am under the assumption of a bjd or porcelain kind which is how i 

opted to paint Dahlia, rather than the usual fluffy bunnies i often draw

it was fun to do something a little different

i really wish i could've expanded on this gothic manor scene!

so this finishes up the showcase of the attacks i had made this year, 

and i am absolutely never making all my attacks full illustrations ever again 

it was, an unnecessary amount of pressure i put myself under so 

an important lesson had been learned

unfortunately i hadn't received any attacks to share this year, 

and as the fight ends in only several days i don't really expect to receive any 

at this point, which is fine- maybe a small bit disappointing but 

nothing to throw a fuss about and i have already accepted this and moved on,

after all i didn't really have a variety of characters posted this year, 

i didn't really interact much with other artists on site this year either as i 

was just focused on getting my attacks done

honestly, this year what i truly wanted more than anything was 

for the artists i had attacked to appreciate the effort i had placed into painting their characters, 

to see and acknowledge that love and attention i given to each piece- 

and each of them had! 

seeing them react with such joy has made me happy 

ྀི꒰っ´༥`ς꒱

i've come to realise that recently, 

one of the things i wanted most, 

is just for my efforts to be acknowledged 

and i want to get better at acknowledging others too!

it has gotten very late, 

so before i ramble into a sappy paragraph just wanted

last week i had updated my blog template, 

but that is only the start of changes happening here-

thinking about newsletters

since starting this blog i knew i've been wanting 

to make an email newsletter to give first updates to interested 

readers to be aware when there is a new important post, 

as well as monthly summary..

i don't have this set up just yet, but it is something that i am 

researching into and hope to apply sometime in the 

upcoming months once i figure out which system i prefer most 

to work with so except that eventually..

and i know not everybody is as excited about emails as i am 

but i think a way to make them more fun and exciting to receive 

is if i also added a special phone wallpaper exclusive to them~ 

i follow the newsletter of Snail Bear who does this and where i got the idea, 

and think it's just such a cute idea i'd like to try it out as well

about instagram

it has been no secret that i always have had intentions of 

leaving instagram one day, and it appears that day may be closer 

than anticipated, sorta.. 

with the latest update affecting the main way my art can reach the 

specific audiences i hoped it'd reach, i have come to the decision 

it is best i finally just accept it won't work out anymore and 

move on to new ventures

i'll elaborate on this such as my whole thoughts and reasonings, 

what will become of my accounts, on a whole different post but i just 

wanted to state it here ahead of time

i just want to assure one thing right now though: 

i will not be deleting my main instagram account, 

or making it private- it will remain public

where to next?

since i'll be moving away from instagram i'll be moving on a 

new direction regarding my social presence online, 

i've had many of these planned for awhile and i really have to 

push myself to finish prepping everything now

♡ tumblr will become my "social" site

⤏ i've used tumblr on and off for many years,

and honestly do like the site despite its faults-

especially the blog customization possibilities!

⤏ i love the reblogging system as a means to share posts

⤏ the "ask" function is pretty neat so if you want to 

ask me anon questions or say anything but been too shy before, 

that will become possible now 

♡ youtube has always been something i've been interested 

in using since some of it's earlier days

⤏ i'll be sharing a lot of the video stories i make here for my projects

⤏ also sometimes speedpaints

♡ ko-fi will finally have a purpose

⤏ my colouring pages and other assets will become available 

here (some will be free, and others will be "delux" with a cost)

⤏ i intend to open up budget friendly commissions through ko-fi to 

make use of it's system

sorry it has been much, much longer 
than anticipated to return to this blog and have a follow 
up to the previous post regarding schneekugel der rosen, 
the draft took much longer than anticipated to finish, 

then i kept remaking the art for this post so oops..

this was intended to be completed uu... three months ago????
o dear it really has been awful while hasn't it..

but i am back now and hope to pick up this blog 

more frequently once more!

but first, a much needed update regarding schneekugel der rosen..

progress on schneekugel der rosen

let's get right to the celebration, the first draft 

for schneekugel der rosen is finally complete!

 

although i had originally planned to complete this 

back in april, this draft took until june to complete 

as it was more difficult to put together than i 

had expected it to-

what i thought i could manage before 

quickly became overwhelming, and i knew 

from the start the whole grand idea i had in mind 

was not going to work out
꒰ ྀི◞͈ ˔ ◟͈ ྀི꒱;;

so i had restarted the draft twice more before i came 

to realisation what it was i needed to do 

after looking over my previously mentioned inspirations, 

and then some new ones!

schneekugel der rosen will still at its heart be an art book 

with some short story segments told through letters, 

notes, and other diary entries as i have already planned 

however this will be almost exclusively through the perspective 

of the storybook version of myself (also called dolle rosenheart), 

i feel this makes the most sense as this story throughout all of its years 

has always been focused on dolle's story, 

and as this is also a very personal passion project i feel its for 

the best the main art book remains that way..

however, 

there are over 20 characters total within schneekugel der rosen, 

many that are essential the overall worldbuilding

so my solution: 

making an extension of the schneekugel der rosen project 

that will extend into a video series

i've already began working on the drafts for that too 
(thankfully the majority of their stories have already 

been written for at least a couple years now so i just have 

to adapt it into a new format)

i've been experimenting with video editing for a bit now, 

gathering free music resources, so i think i could do 

this rather easily with a little more experimenting..

a little history on schneekugel der rosen

as with last time will be once again sharing a little 

bite sized history of schneekugel der rosen~

a few months after i dropped the original concept of 

schneekugel der rosen i would pick it up again once more 

in 2016 with new ideas and motivations! 

and they were most certainly the weirdest ideas i ever 

had for the project;;

notably, i wanted to make it a dark fantasy magical girl manga..

this is the guardians of positivity era of schneekugel der rosen

even today i still have nearly almost all of my illustrations, 

concept sketches, outlines, and draft fragments 

so there is a lot i could share of the story if i wanted but, 

i would rather not because it's really embarrassing and, 

a bunch of questionable decisions when getting to 

more specific details;;

but i will give a small general overview of the story to 

at least give an idea of what it could've been 

ྀི꒰っ ς꒱

in the realm of the gods two dieties, Punita* of Positivity and 
Diabolos* of Negativity had a fateful meeting. Diabolos had 

desired to marry the goddess but she had refused his advances, 

which angered the god and would result in a brutal war. 

Punita would die during the battle and her surviving guardians would 

seal her soul into the dream realm until a new body could be crafted 

for her to continue living and put an end to negativity for good

for hundreds of years they kept this project secret and hidden from Diabolos, 

who was steadily increasing the negativity and hatred below on Earth 

as he strived for full power over the world..

finally they were able to craft the perfect doll body for Punita and 

reawaken her from her deathly slumber so she could reclaim her throne, 

increase her guardians, and heal the world from the bitter god's damages. 

unfortunately before the goddess could have a full oppurnity to recover she had 

went against her guardian's advices and left the safety of the palace to 

take a walk, which led to her being found out by the enemy and having to flee quickly, 

resulting in her casting a portal down to Earth and crashing the picnic

of a small group of high school girls.

desperate for help in a land she was now unfamiliar and aware 

she was being followed had made the quick decision to grant the 

girls the powers to be her guardians until her true guardians could 

locate and rescue her. 

eventually Diabolos would get word Punita was on Earth 

and would seek her out as well, leading to a series of chaotic events 

to occur in the little rural towne the goddess had taken refuge in. 
it was now up to the impromptu guardians to defend the weakened goddess 
and prevent a whole catastrophie destroying the place they call home....

*Punita was the name of Dolle during this time, though the design 

would later be repurposed for a separate character Rosaceae
*Diabolos was the name of Rosaire during this time, with 

combined traits of Heinrich;;

at the time the story was still intended to be a graphic novel/manga, 

i even made a mock page in one of my original journals!

and it will never see the light of day again 

꒰ྀི✧ ✧꒱ྀི

i was honestly, genuinely far more excited for this version of the 

story at the time, i had made probably around 3 outlines? 

but as i would come to realise 

it was overall incredibly bad concept the more i wrote 

and would not work out

guardians of positivity faced the problem i've always 

struggled with in writing- i kept tossing in ideas 

because i liked them, but then would not be able to 

execute them properly
i also just, didn't like having rosaire be the 
true antagonist-

i was just trying to cut corners and not have to 

worry about writing two antagonists so combined 

him with another and yeA....
for various reasons that was an incredibly awful idea hehe;;

i mean, its primarily an art project so it shouldn't

my words onto the page coherently

seek out other eyes to give it a read and advice..

so, today will only be discussing about my project 

schneekugel der rosen

what it's about, my progress on it, and also some 

fun little history too~

i am, incredibly nervous, but excited to finally speak more on 

this project after such a long time..

because while i have brought it up a few times, mainly back 

in my instagram stories over the years- 

i never really explained much about what it was, 

who the characters were, or anything like that besides 

the occassional snippet and concept sketches

the reason i got so quiet about it is actually, various reasons:

besides lack of confidence in my own work,

the biggest reason is simply that the story just kept changing 

so much. characters names kept changing, 

the plot kept evolving and devolving and going all over 

the place because honestly, at that point i did not know what i 

wanted for this project at that point;;

so, what is schneekugel der rosen?

schneekugel der rosen is a fairytale storybook collection 

that is told through illustrations, letters, diaries, & short stories. 

it is about the daily life and experiances of the living dolls 

that populate isolated kingdom, 

notably dolle rosenheart who has been documenting 

it's observations before it's next death

although there is a plot weaved throughout the project, 

this isn't really a typical fairytale about heros and villians..

it's about the trials of life itself;

learning to romanticise the small moments in life, 

recovering from trauma, the cycle of death & rebirth, 
and most importantly love in all forms

this is intended to be published neatly together into an art book, 

in english & german once the project is finialised

back in febuary i began working on the first outline 

for schneekugel der rosen, collecting together all my concepts 

and worldbuilding from the past nearly 4 years.. 

and am happy to announce that this draft is nearly complete!

the worldbuilding journal is finished, 

so all that is left for this draft is the actual character stories 

which are still all strewn about in older sketchbooks, 
text documents, chatrooms....  ꒰ྀི ៸៸៸៸ ก꒱ྀི

i was originally hoping to have this completed by now but, 

my health really hadn't permitted it
and once i recovered got distracted by playing Project Zomboid

so my goal is to get it completed by the end of april now..

progress has started, so hopefully i'll be able to get everything 

bundled together in place soon enough

a little history on schneekugel der rosen

and finally, the first of the

bite-sized history on schneekugel der rosen~

with each specific update post intend to share 
the ways the story used to be, 

as i personally enjoy learning the history of my 

favourite stories so want to do the same with mine 

ྀི꒰っ´༥`ς꒱

schneekugel der rosen was originally concepted back when i was 

14 years old back in 2014, though it's original title is long forgotten
i thankfully still had pieces of its plot mixed in old scraps and concepts

i had created later in 2015

so, this is what remains from way back then;

the original concept was about the main character Ami*, 

who was experiancing two different realities at once.

in one reality, the "mundane" reality-

Ami was just an outcast middle schooler that spent most 

time alone in their room when not at school with their friends..

in the other reality, the "dream" reality- 

Ami is an angelic doll priestess that lives in an abadoned castle, 

on the run from the corrupt Emperor Thanatos* and his son Darius* who seek 

to claim the power which Ami holds.

And one day, as Ami seeks to return to the "mundane" reality 

to escape their pursuit finds they are unable to return and are 

captured, learning that what they thought was real and fake 

weren't what they seemed..

*Ami is the original name of Dolle
*Thanatos was the original name of Heinrich 
*Darius was the original name of Rosaire

Heinrich and Rosaire are no longer related in more recent versions of the project

and that is the best way for me to summarise how it was!

schneekugel der rosen has changed significantly 
from it's earliest days, but the essence of it remains to it 

to this day through the relationship of the three mentioned 
characters, as well as the normal & dream realities 

still playing a role in the project..

at the time the plot of the story was also much more 

apparent as this was originally supposed to be 

a manga/graphic novel project

it never got to get that far though at the time.. 

during 2014-15 i became incredibily unconfident in my 

works and was unable to really commit to this story

i knew i wanted to make it,

there was a story i wanted to tell but, 

it clearly wasn't time

so i dropped it, expecting to forget about it but 

after a few months, i just couldn't let it go 

which leads to the 2016 version of the project

but that's a story for another day

thrifted book haul & other finds

 

hello dolls, dears, & teddy bears ♡

i was able to get quite a lot of wonderful thrift finds 

throughout the past couple weeks and wanted to share what 

i had collected ྀི꒰っ´༥`ς꒱

first, i actually had my first book haul of the year!

it's been years that i've been able to get soso many books 

around the same time, but these are ones i've desired 

for a pretty long while now.. 

Inkworld Trilogy

the Inkworld Trilogy was amongst the very top of my 

favourite books back between late elementry and through middle school

these books influenced me so much as a child, and i 

reallyreally wanted to get them years ago but the cost was too 

much for my parents who couldn't justify spending extra money 

on a book series which i already read by borrowing from the library 

which i understood, as heartbreaking as it was.. 

but, recently after recieving money from my mom as a gift i chose to finally 

find and order myself used copies of the series because 

i literally had a dream about the story and knew- 

its time. i need to finally fulfill the wish of 12 year old me 

and also reread this series! 

though, admittedly, i am just a little worried about how my perception 

of the story will change now that i am an adult..

Dracula

remember how in my last post i brought up about rereading Dracula 

through Dracula Daily last year? well.... 

i decided it was about time I get the actual novel for my collection too

considering it's one of my favourite pieces of gothic literature

i've actually been searching for a used copy for the past 3 years honestly, 

but just now found one with a cover that i actually liked..

these next "thrifted finds" actually were given to me free from my 

grandma who had recieved them from a neighbor friend of hers who 

was moving out ꒰ྀི ๑ ´ ˘ ` ू ꒱ྀི

the pretty lady in white is a candle holder (i think), 

and am really eager to have something like her in my collection~ 

next is the Victorian Flowers & Fairies Photo Album which is 

really beautiful, i just have to figure out what pictures to 

include on the inside..

then there is the Kodacolor Puzzle that features an antique bisque doll 

which i can't wait to put together

it's been a very long time i did puzzles, i never did one this size before..

my thriftstore finds

finally, here are my lucky finds from the thriftstore i brought back 

with me this time- how cute are these figurines? ꒰ྀི ฅ́˘ฅ̀ ྀི꒱

ultimately left her behind because she was unable 

to support herself and i don't have any more doll stands

(plus i really want to save my money for a game anyways)

valentine's day

 

hello dolls, dears, & teddy bears ♡

happy (belated) valentine's day ꒰ྀི ๑ ´ ˘ ` ू ꒱ྀི

once again since i was recovering by a sudden case of 

feeling unwell again, this got unfortunately delayed as i focused on 

recovering again. but am starting to feel better so hopefully will 

be well enough to continue updating more frequently again ♡
i guess ill just have to see how things go..

before i began feeling ill again i made this cute valentine's scrapbook 

spread in my sketchbook using a couple of the vintage valentines 

i recieved from my grandma~
i think it turned out really cute..

"to you my beloved friend, with our hearts bound as one, 
even when were far apart, were still so near each other"

and on the topic of vintage valentines, here is all of the 

vintage cards i picked out that origianlly belonged to my grandma 

i am eager to use more of them in my scrapbooking and other crafts

ྀི꒰っ´༥`ς꒱

looking through my grandma's old valentines day box really 

makes me want to make me customise my own one sometime, 

just to store cute trinkets in~ 

but i don't think i have space for that..

continuing with the valentines day theme, 

although i already shared these on instragram wanted to 

finish showing off the precious candygrams i made on goatlings ♡

these were made for users fr0gpatr0l and Susie!

i realised that while working on these candygrams that they ended 

up way more like my traditional paint sketches compared to 

the current examples i was working on for commissions, 

so i actually will be redoing my sketch painting 

commissions examples sometime now that i 

improved my digital method.. ꒰ྀི ៸៸៸៸ ก꒱ྀི

but i dont feel too motivated to draw right now feeling unwell..

finally, to end off this valentine's day post-

it's something not valentine's day related actually ꒰ྀིㅇㅁㅇ꒱ྀི

but am too eager about it to wait until another post

as its rather it's an exciting little announcement~

the outline process for my passion project 

"schneekugel der rosen" has  finally started!

although for awhile now i've had bits of pieces of lore 

scattered into various places over the past few years, 

it is now finally all coming together into one journal for the 

first time in a very long time- manymany years...

꒰ ៸៸ ◞ ˕ ◟ ៸៸ ꒱

i think, the last time this project had reached this stage 

was back in 2017 based on script binders i found in my closet 

while doing the extensive cleaning

and its certainly changed a lot since then- since at that 

time i still wanted it to be a graphic novel

but now, "schneekugel der rosen" is going to be an 

illustrated book project ♡

are you familiar with 

"The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady?"

it's a publication of Edith Holden's 1906 diary observing the countryside

and i decided, that is similar in how wish for this project to be..

something like an art book, but with personal written 

accounts from the characters within the setting that elaborates 

on the world and events around them as they occur,

Dracula (as i was rereading through Dracula Daily last year) made me realise 

how much i love that way of developing a plot.. 

while i work on this outline, 

i don't expect to get too much illustrations made during this time 

as i am deeply in a writing mood at the moment. 

but i am certainly working on a couple wips am eager to 

share once the motivation returns to continue them ꒰ྀི ๑ ´ ˘ ` ू ꒱ྀི

until then, this is getting a little long and the time 

is now getting late,
